Setting Up MONITOR

What's the process?

Let us create a personalized dashboard for your organization to:

Track, analyze, and showcase your research activities and their impact.
Discover and evaluate Open Science trends within your institution.
Make informed, data-driven decisions to advance your goals.

Here’s how it works

We guide you every step of the way, from data integration to dashboard delivery, ensuring a seamless experience tailored to your needs.
  • You

    We

    Step 1a

You state your interest in having an institutional dashboard.

All information is exchanged under confidential agreements and we only make public what you agree on.

Additionally, you ensure your institution’s data is accurately represented and disambiguated through the OpenOrgs Service.

You may also provide a list of research results already associated with your institution to further refine the process.

    Step 1b

Starting from the OpenAIRE Graph we check for existing data for your institution.

We establish your organisation's affiliations to research results (publications, datasets, software, and more) and deploy a dedicated Virtual Machine to host your personalized dashboard.

In parallel, we aggregate content from your repositories, OA journals, or CRIS system, ensuring compliance with the OpenAIRE Guidelines. This integration not only enhances your visibility but also positions your institution as a key contributor to the global Open Scholarly Infrastructure.

    Step 2a

You validate and approve the results.

You review your dashboard and the displayed information to ensure it meets your expectations. If necessary, you refine your organization's name or add additional publications to the list.
    Step 2b

We present the results to you on our Beta portal.

We refine until the dashboard fits your needs and requirements. We allocate and set up a dedicated Virtual Machine to host your personalised dashboard.
    Step 3a

Through 1-on-1 expert consultations you interact with us

    • to understand any gaps and deviations within the dashboard
    • to verify the data integrity
    • to discuss the addition of any new metrics and indicators that might interest you
    Step 3b

We produce well-documented visualisations of simple & composite indicators.

Rooted in Open Science principles and guided by an evidence-based approach, we deliver well-documented visualizations of simple and composite indicators derived from funded research activities.
    Step 4a

Customise your dashboard and make your own profile.

Make your own profile by selecting the metrics of interest to you and the ones you want to publish, to keep private, or to share just with colleagues.

    Step 4b

We refine until we are happy with the results.

We refine until we are happy with the results.
    Step 5a

    Select your team

And make them collaborators of the service.
    Step 5b

We notify you about new metrics and indicators.

As we keep enriching the OpenAIRE Graph, we will notify you about new metrics and indicators which you may find useful to add to your profile.

You will also become part of OpenAIRE’s active community, open to join in discusions surrounding new indicators and processes.
  • You

    We

    Step 1a

You provide information about your funded projects and join OpenAIRE.

All information is exchanged under confidential agreements and we only make public what you agree on. This can be done via either

    • Direct Data Provision: Share your project metadata via spreadsheet files, APIs, or publicly accessible project databases. A formal agreement ensures data privacy and defines terms of use for data sharing and dashboard creation.
    • Open Funder Registry (OFR) Integration: Learn more about the Open Funder Registry (OFR) and how it integrates with MONITOR.
    Step 1b

We ingest your grant metadata into the OpenAIRE mining tools

We ensure your grants are accurately attributed by:

    • Identifying references in Crossref.
    • Leveraging metadata from OpenAIRE-compliant repositories.
    • Updating and refining text-mining algorithms to analyze millions of full-text PDFs and extract acknowledgments to your grants.

Ingest all results in the OpenAIRE Graph and publish them in our pre-production environment (beta).

    Step 2a

You validate initial results and approve for them to be shown on the Explore portal.

You review your dashboard and the displayed information to ensure it meets your expectations. If necessary, you refine your organization's name using the OpenOrgs Service or you can upload additional publications to the list.

    Step 2b

We present the results to you on our Beta portal.

We allocate and set up a dedicated Virtual Machine to host your personalised dashboard. We refine until you are happy with the results.

We also put in place a process where you share your new grant database (metadata) and we ingest in our periodic processes.

    Step 5a

    Select your team

And make them collaborators of the service. They can also refind and download graphs, build their own reports.

  • You

    We

    Step 1a

You state your interest in having a research initiative dashboard.

All information is exchanged under confidential agreements and we only make public what you agree on.

Additionally, you ensure your institution’s data is accurately represented and disambiguated through the OpenOrgs Service.

    Step 1b

We set up an administration dashboard that you can use to specify which research products of the OpenAIRE Graph are relevant for you.

We develop and refine a customised full-text mining algorithm to identify your publications, to analyze millions of full-text PDFs and extract acknowledgments to your initiative/community.

    Step 2a

You configure the criteria to identify the research products that you want to be accounted for.

You use the administration dashboard we created for you. If this is not enough, you further give us input to refine the customised full-text mining algorithm to extract infomration from full-text publications.
    Step 2b

We present the results to you on our Beta portal.

We allocate and set up a dedicated Virtual Machine to host your personalised dashboard and give you access to preview the results.
